Inspirational and transformational plans for economic development built on the unique assets of our region, and determined objectives for growth and prosperity make Swansea Bay City Region a pivotal location for economic success.

A retrospective glance at the past industrial heritage of the region when world class pioneers of engineering, design and science  have put this region on the map as a global centre for copper smelting and refining gives an assured indication of the opportunities for a buoyant future, again focusing on and harnessing the region’s strengths.

Distinguished, successful global businesses have already realised the benefits of growing their operations in the region - 3M Plc, Sofidel Intertissue, Tata Steel, Amazon and around 22,000 small to medium enterprises are thriving with the commitment of the strong and dynamic workforce.

Engineering, design and manufacturing are strong regional competencies and have attracted industrial partnerships from Rolls Royce, Tata Steel and BP who have invested in R&D facilities at Swansea University.

This is a clever and connected region with unique intellectual and natural resources. Swansea Bay has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world – the basis for the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon – the world’s first, generating renewable electricity at a scale not seen before.

The region has also experience in constructing and deploying Wales’ first tidal stream device in Pembrokeshire, a centre of excellence for sustainable marine energy generation, supported by a dedicated, government backed Energy Enterprise Zone.

International recognition is also afforded to the Universities based in Swansea Bay which provide access to well-educated pool of talent and world class research and innovation. Swansea University and Trinity Saint David enrol over 40,000 students each academic year providing outstanding prospects for graduates in the fields of engineering, medicine, computer sciences and the arts. This is a new generation of economic development with anchors of partnership, confidence and ambition. Key strengths of infrastructure, resources and successful industry sectors make Swansea Bay City Region a clear contender for investment.
